Letter of Recommendation, 1934
January 30, l934
Dean George A. Warfield
University of Denver
Denver, Colorado
Dear Dean Warfield:
This is in reply to your letter of inquiry concerning Earl C. Crockett.
As you doubtless know, Mr. Crockett Is a Ph.D. from the University
of California. We think of him as being a man of pleasing personality,
high scholarship, and a good organizer. We think of him as a man who
can do independent work and who shows considerable originality. I
have had a conference with Dean Towne the School of Commerce and we
have agreed that Mr. Crockett is on his up and that it will be a keen
disappointment to us if he leaves. We have also agreed that he is
ready for a promotion and will give a good account of himself. He
has done the things here that we expected him to do and more.
Mr. Crockett is socially correct and has a wife and two children.
You mention specifically his ability to speak with convincing force.
He is not at all of the William Jennings Bryan type and is minus the
windmill gestures and the booming voice. He has had rather large classes,
however, and speaks with authority. He impresses one as being in full
command of his field and his efficiency and general grasp inspires
one with confidence. His direction of research work with graduate
students has been of a high order and is so recognized. We think mighty
well of him here.
Very truly yours,
John C. West
President
