Crockett History

The Coat of Arms were first used during the middle ages to identify warriors in battle and tournaments. The Crockett Coat of Arms is identified as "Ar. three cornish chough's ppr." and above the shield and helmet is the Crest identified as "Ar. a naturally colored cornish chough ppr." Family Mottos are believed to have originated as battle cries in medieval times. The Family Motto recorded with the Crockett Coat of Arms is: "Crow not, Croke not".

Surnames originated for the purpose of specific identification. The four primary sources for second names were: occupation, location, father's name, or characteristics. Crockett appears to be characteristic and is believed to mean "one who was crippled or lamed". The original spelling is believed to be "Crokett".

The original Crockett family began over 1000 years ago in France. The word Crockett means "little hook" and the ornaments that decorate the spires of cathedrals are called "croquets".
