Acting President Experience

Below are items Earl wrote down about his experience as being the Acting President of BYU. It looks like this is a draft of a something he was going to write more about:

1. Beginning about June 1963. Pres. Wilkinson was away most of the time (unofficially I was acting Pres.)

2. Dec. 1963 I was officially appointed and moved into Pres. office.

3. Jan. 1965, Pres. W. again became Pres.

4. Pres. McKay's telephone call re. Negro and John Birch Society.

5. My meeting with First Presidency regarding Biological Lab. Building.

6. Budgeting experience with Pres. Kimball and others.

7. My talks at assembly.

8. The spring assembly planned by Mrs. Hinsbrom, rode on power mower.

9. Attendance at meeting in Denver (Western Athletic Association), honor - served as chairman

10. The commencement exercises: bomb treat, poor speaker, etc.

11. Indian student wanted grade lower.

12. Student from Lima - I taught her grandfather in 8th grade.

13. Work with deans, etc.

Bomb treat comments:
- Reference in the 50 years book
- Additional input: I believe this occurred while Dad was acting president, and I believe it was at commencement. One of the general authorities was there (President Brown). What happened was that someone called in a bomb threat while everyone was assembling. The general authority present said he believed that it was a hoax and that the ceremony should go forward, and so it did. And it was in fact a hoax.
